MV AGUSTA 750 AMERICA

The Ferrari of motorcycles

1977, Beautiful condition, Approximately 50 sold in the U.S.A., 200 worldwide. This bike has 6,400 miles on it; that would average out to about 240 miles a year. One of the rarest and most collectable of motorcycles, this bike is true "poetry in metal".

About MV Agusta;

In the 25 years from 1952 to 1976, MV Agusta had won 37 manufacturers’ World Championships. This involved winning 270 World Championship races, some of them for many years in succession. Taking into account other races not of world Championship status, it has been calculated that over 4,000 had been won by MVs during that 25 year period. They were the "bike to beat" before the Japanese came on the scene. They are currently back in business, although the Agusta family no longer owns them (I believe the real Agusta Company currently makes high-end corporate helicopters). MV is credited with manufacturing the first of the modern in-line fours, there is little doubt that the ancestors of the "America" inspired Japanese thinking and led to the emergence of the Honda fours, culminating in the debut of the CB 750.

All moving components in the engine are running on ball or needle bearings, this engine was truly designed to be serviced like a Grand prix racer, with most critical components accessable during a "pit stop". With crankcase and transmission covers off and innards exposed, the engine is seen to be a work of art typical of Italian engineering at its finest. Though other manufacturers of large capacity fours follow accepted practice of running valves direct in cylinder heads, MV’s have separate, cast-iron, detachable troughs to carry guides and valves. Should the gearbox / transmission need repair or ratio changes, it can be accessed, removed, and dismanteled directly from the side of the engine, without removing the engine from the frame (a cassete type unit). The crank is mounted in its own carrier, meshing with the transmission and the gear-driven tower running the cams, and can be removed from the engine as an assembly. The oil pump assembly is gear driven and can be removed in moments as a unit.

These bikes were considered extremely expensive when they were being produced, they were hand fitted and assembled in very limited quantities, and have proven to be on of the most sought-after, appreciated, and appreciating motorcycle marques.

My price is $35,000 U.S.
